I have been diagnosed with a small subchronic hemorrhage

Hi Alex, I am seven weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with a small subchronic hemorrhage. The baby had a heatbeat of 111bpm which seems a bit low to me but hospital staff said it was fine for five weeks gestation. I am bleeding a little bit of red blood about once a week and have had small amounts of brown blood on and off in between. Can you tell me whether the red blood is a bad sign or just my body trying to drain the hemorrhage? Thanks, Michelle

Answer: Hi Michelle, This all sounds to be expected for this condition. The blood that you are losing is your blood and not the baby’s so there is no damage being done to the baby. The blood will gradually ease of as the hemorrhage is drained and it will be a mixture of old and more red blood. If you do start to bleed more heavily you need to have a check up. Best wishes, Alex
