Reward your child for eating well with a special picture that becomes more elaborate the more he eats!
Getting children to eat anything other than toasted cheese sandwiches is a challenge for many parents. Here’s a low-pressure, high-fun way to encourage your child to eat a wider range of foods (even broccoli!) without having to resort to threats of no dessert or television.
Offer to draw a favourite animal, character, colourful flower, or other design for every bite your child takes. (You can also use stickers or paints). The goal is to fill up the page with as many items as possible. This, of course, depends on how much your child is willing to eat. Whether or not he cleans his plate, reinforce the positive behaviour by presenting him with the picture at the end of the meal for him to keep. This will remind your child of how great he ate — or how much more he will need to eat at the next meal!
