Blighted ovum support

I've just found out today that I have a blighted ovum. I went for a scan last week and I was supposed to be 7w2d but the sac measured at 5w3d. They thought maybe my ovulation was out, so I had another blood test which showed my hcg doubled from approx. 7000 to 14000 in 4 days. I had another scan a week later and it showed no further growth. I'm now scheduled for a d&c on Friday. I'm just not really sure what to expect. Has anyone had a blighted ovum before or can anyone give me some idea of what to expect during a d&c. I was too emotional to ask questions at the dr's today and now I don't see anyone until I see the specialist on Friday. Is it painful? Do you bleed like a normal period after or is it light? Do they do testing to find out what caused the blighted ovum? If anyone has any experience with this let me know, even if it's just to tell me how it went for you smile Thanks for any help you can offer

I dont have any advice about a D & C. My miscarriage occurred naturally I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss - it is a cruel loss of your dream and hopes for the future. As far as I am aware there will be no pain and afterwards the bleeding is much less and stops earlier than if you lost it naturally.

I had what called a missed miscarriage. That means that at 8 weeks when I saw my obs there was a heartbeat but when I went back at 10 weeks nothing. I did not have any signs. I had a D&C. It was day surgery. No issues with the surgery. I had bleeding after but just like a period. I was then told to wait for my next period that turned up a month later before trying again if that's what we wanted to do. Yes they did do testing to see if there were any chromosomal errors. Ours there was not problems just one of those things.

Just for some hope. We now have three beautiful children. I did have another natural miscarriage again between my DD and my twins.

So just a little update, it's all very confusing. I met with the specialist doctor last Friday who told me that due to the fact I hadn't had a blood test since the 20th and the sac was still too small to be dismissed as a blighted ovum or missed miscarriage, they wouldn't do the d&c until I returned the following Friday (today) to have another blood test and scan. I had both today and it shows what they think may be 2 sacs, one empty and one with a fetal pole plus my hormones have risen to 24,000. They aren't sure if it was possibly a twin pregnancy and one has miscarried or if maybe I'm starting to miscarry and it's just the contents of my uterus moving around to look like two sacs. In any case I now have to go back next Friday for another scan and blood test and see if anything has changed this time. So confusing! I'm still in good spirits though and expecting the worst but hoping for the best smile
