Answer: Hi, In a general sense, shows are not an indication of true labour but they can be a sign that the cervix is dilating and getting ready for labour. Contractions which are regular and building in intensity are a sign of labour. And for most women in the early stages and when their baby is due, it can be quite confusing as to whether what they are feeling really is a sign that their are going to have their baby soon. It's important to remember that every woman, her pregnancy and her baby is unique and individual and most pregnancy and labour advice is based on the "average" rather than taking into account individual factors. If you're still unsure then I suggest that you speak with your midwife or maternity care provider who knows you and your individual history. Best Jane
