My obstetrician has asked if I would like to be induced at 39 weeks? I would really like to have a natural birth and avoid forceps/vacuum/caesarean if at all possible. What are the risks involved?
Answer: Hi, It is true that induction can lead to a higher risk of other complications and interventions during delivery. I would be asking the obstetrician why the recommendation to be induced at 39 weeks, is there a medical reason for this? Is the baby growing as he/she needs to and are you well? The best way to manage this is to speak openly with your doctor and see why they are recommending the induction and working from there. Are they are aware of your desire for a natural birth? Communicating with your maternity care provider is an important step in maximising your chances of having the type of birth that you want for yourself and your baby. Best Jane
